Hello Birders,
Occasionally a Northern Flicker that has both malar marks and the chevron on the nape visits my suet. All other characteristics seem to be of red-shafted.
Last year I also saw him, or another, a few times.
Is this called an ‘intergrade’?
How common are they?

Hi Nancy Yes “integrade”. I’ve been seeing them at my suet since spring 2025, less commonly in the summer, and then very consistently from late summer thru about 1.5 months ago. I think there was more than one. Hoping he/ they return/s this fall. The underwing and under tail color has varied!
