I've seen great blue herons hunting in fields pretty frequently, I think. Once I saw one eat a snake. Lately I saw one a few times apparently hunting in the field on the north end of Hovandper park, and I was wondering if that has to do with water levels at this time of year perhaps concentrating the small critters in reduced dryish areas?

Fabulous! Not too early in the season for a dawn chorus at all - in my Alabama Hill neighborhood this (lovely) pre-dawn the singers included robins, song sparrows, black-capped chickadees, towhees, ...more

Can anyone share information about the approach to the heron rookery at Little? Squalicum Park? A friend told me about it and suggested I park at the tech college but the information was pretty vague.

I live in Fairhaven and have been by the rookery here. Some pictures from Post Point.

Park in the big parking lot behind the tech college. The trail begins in the far right back corner and you will see a trail marker so park near that. Short way down the trail on the right you will see about a dozen active nests. Tricia
