A couple of us have just taken part in the NorfolkRO online talk about how to carry out research on family histories.  I have done some of this but it was good to pick up some tips.  The session was free and well delivered and I commend it to others.  The ones on house histories are understandably booked out, with waiting lists, but look very useful.  The Outreach Assistant commented that she missed the records and the people and urged us to seek a visit to the NRO 'when things get back to normal'.  It was a positive moment.

Thanks Peter, that's great to hear you found it helpful.

Something new being launched this week is Season of Sound:

‘Season of Sound’ is a programme of free online talks and activities throughout the summer hosted by Unlocking Our Sound Heritage East of England at Norfolk Record Office. Season of Sound celebrates sound and all the roles it plays in our lives, from the sounds of the home, to the sounds found across Norfolk during the summer months.

Season of Sound will launch on Friday 10th July with a podcast by sound artist and recordist Richard Fair, who will take us on an auditory journey around Norfolk. With many years of experience in broadcasting, producing exhibitions and oral history recording, Richard Fair is the creator of the Norfolk Sound Map, an online exploration of Norfolk through sound. In his podcast he guides the listener around Norfolk, sharing the quiet calm of the Cathedral Close in the heart of Norwich, the sounds of wildlife at the Wheatfen Nature Reserve, and a chorus of sea shanties on the Great Yarmouth sea front, as well as examples of oral history recordings that capture the memories of local residents.

‘Seeking Sounds with Richard Fair’ will be available from Friday 10th July on the YouTube channel, Norfolk Record Office.
