On Tuesday at 8 PM, I’m planning the Volcano CIrcuit CCW route in Watopia (https://www.strava.com/segments/19696151). This will be a 60 minute ride.

If anyone is interested, just follow me on Zwift (Michael Bello - NCC) and I'll add you to the invite. If you follow me, please send me a note.

A few recommendations...

Zwift now allows late joiners to Meetups. Give yourself a few extra minutes to join the ride anyway (on Zwift 5 minutes before the ride would be ideal).

Please wear the NCC jersey. This makes it easier to recognize who is in the group. On a computer, log into Zwift, once riding, press “P” on you keyboard and enter NCCMAKIT. After that, you can use the jersey on any device running Zwift (laptop, tablet, phone, etc.).

Our previous rides were enhanced with conversations on Discord. After installing Discord, ˙˙use the NCC invite to join the conversation: https://discordapp.com/invite/uXdHm7m

If you are new to Discord, I recommend this article on ZwiftInsider: https://zwiftinsider.com/using-discord/. Please pay particular attention to Step 4: "Discord automatically places you in the text chat channel, which isn’t where you want to be. Click the hamburger menu (3 lines at top-left) to view all the channels on the server. Click “General” under voice channels, then click “Connect to Voice” to join the general voice chat."

I also recommend testing Discord out prior to the ride. Feel free to contact me if you want to test Discord.

Hello,

I believed I accepted a meetup request for this particular event. How can I confirm that? The ride is a ""casual"" ride, right? I look forward to progressing and working hard to improve my mental health. Thanks in advance.

Tonight, Charlie, Chris, Melissa, Teddy, and I rode the Volcano Circuit CCW route in Watopia.

In the 60 minutes, we covered approximately 20 miles with 525 feet of climbing.

The conversation on Discord was lively tonight. Topics included BikeFest Solo, yesterday's Zwift race, the movie Cocoon (there was not a mermaid in the film Melissa), and current Netflix shows.

Charlie, Chris, Melissa, and Teddy earned the Volcano Circuit CCW route achievement, which doubled their XP points for the first lap.

Here is the NCC Zwift schedule:

- Mon 6:30 PM - Road Race (Follow Jonathan O'Keeffe on Zwift for invite)
- Tue 8:00 PM - Social Ride (Follow Michael Bello on Zwift for invite)
- Thu 5:30 PM - Time Trial / Hill Climb (solo effort, TT bike required - Follow Michael Bello on Zwift for invite)
- Sat 9:00 AM - Social Ride (weather dependent - Follow Michael Bello on Zwift for invite)

Hey NCC,

I am very new to Zwift and getting myself back into some sort of shape after a summer mired in COVID-related precautions and a PhD defense (which is thankfully over, and I passed!) I'd love to join for social rides this fall.  Can anybody point me in the direction of a *useful* Zwift users forum? I am usually pretty tech savvy, but Zwift's interface leaves a lot to be desired. For example, how do search for users on Zwift? Can I do this through the app on my mac, or do I have to do this via the "companion app" on my iPhone? And I presume once I find someone, I can follow them?

If I should put this in a new thread, I'd be happy to. Thx!

Kris,

Sure. It would be great if you could join us.

Here is a link to the NCC's updated Zwift page: https://www.nohobikeclub.org/general/zwift/

Here is a link to the NCC Zwift Guide, which describes a lot of the processes: https://www.nohobikeclub.org/ncc2017/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/NCC-Zwift-Guide.pdf

I find it easiest to follow individuals on Zwift. By following individuals, you can be invited to NCC Meetups. I run the Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday rides (follow Michael Bello - NCC) and Jonathan O'Keeffe runs the Monday night ride. Zwift has a detailed link describing the process: https://zwift.com/news/5082-zwift-how-to-joining-a-zwifter-on-a-ride

Hope to see you on one of our Zwift rides.

Kris,

I’d recommend the Tuesday ride if that works for your schedule. It’s the most casual and we have time to experiment. We ride at 8 pm on Tuesdays. Give me a holler on my cell if you have questions or need tech help.

The ride was a great returning experience. The banter was good overall. Having a tire trainer I cannot verbally participate in the banter on discord :( . The following kept happening during the whole ride. Like in the picture we were grouped up together, but according to the ""time"" we should have not been grouped up that closely. Is it a Zwift thing, or a me thing?

Christopher,

The time intervals displayed in the rider list for a private meetup (like we did last night) are a little funky since an update that bot pushed out about six weeks ago. The times seem to be offset based on the initial rider position prior to the ride beginning. We are still waiting for a fix from Zwift. Until then, we have to live with the time intervals that are off by a handful of seconds.

Chris, glad you could join the group last night.

For Discord, a pair of headphones makes it much easier. I use a $20 bluetooth pair from Amazon, so nothing special is required. Others use the Apple corded headphones.

Discord has pretty decent background noise cancelling software, so don't worry about the wheel on trainer making too much noise. I have an older Kickr that makes a fair amount of noise, while other participants use wheel on trainers.

Discord can run on your computer, phone, or tablet, so there are a lot of possibilities to make chatting easier while riding.

See you on the virtual roads.
