For the NCC's fall road race series, we will be joining organized Zwift races, racing against each other as well as other riders.  Scoring will be based on how you finish relative to other riders in your category.

The Week 8 race will be on Monday December 21, 5:30 PM EST.  The race we are entering is called "3R LaGuardia Loop Reverse Flat Race" (https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1375337). The race is six laps of the LaGuardia Loop Reverse course in New York, for about 12 miles total.   All categories in this week's race will ride together.  You can register for the race ahead of time in your browser at the link above, or you can join the race on the spot when you start Zwift by finding it in the event list in the upper right corner of the startup screen.  Note that start times for these races will vary, depending on the Zwift event schedule, but will generally start between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.  There is no late join option for organized races on Zwift, so make sure you're ready to go ahead of the scheduled start time.

Scoring will be based on the results published by ZwiftPower (https://zwiftpower.com/).  You must be registered for a free account on ZwiftPower in order for your results to be counted.  If you're not already registered on ZwiftPower, be sure to sign up in advance of the race, as it takes a little while to get your Zwift account linked to your ZwiftPower account.  You should also join the NCC team on ZwiftPower (https://zwiftpower.com/team.php?id=227) so that I can pick you out in the results.

Zwift races have four categories - A, B, C, and D.  You must enter at least the category specified by the "Minimum Category" setting on your ZwiftPower account.  You can race up a category if you'd like, but you cannot race down (a Category B rider can enter the B race or the A race, but cannot race with the C race).  Riders racing up a category will receive a 10% point bonus.  Women racing in any open (mixed-gender) category will also receive a 10% point bonus.

Scoring is based on how well you place relative to the other riders in the race.  The maximum possible points for a race is 100 points.  If there are 100 people in your race, and you finish 1st, you will receive 100 points.  If you finish 2nd, you will receive 99 points.  If you finish last, you will receive 1 point.  If there are 10 people in your race, 1st place is worth 100 points, 2nd place is worth 90 points, etc.  In general, Points = (100 * (B + 1)) / N, where B is the number of riders you beat, and N is the total number of riders in the race.

Optional audio/video chat will be  available on NCC's Discord channel at https://is.gd/nccdiscord.

This race is part of our weekly lineup of  Zwift rides, as follows:
  -  Mon afternoon - Road Race (times will vary between 5 PM and 7 PM EST)
  -  Tue 8:00 PM - Social Ride (invite required)
  -  Thu 5:30 PM - Time Trial / Hill Climb (solo effort, TT bike required) (invite required)
  -  Sat 9:00 AM - Social Ride (weather dependent) (invite required)
Follow Michael Bello on Zwift for invites to the invite-only rides.

Fast race tonight, with some strong riders at the front pushing the pace across all the categories.  Kevin and I ended up among just a handful of B's in the front group, and I could feel him breathing down my neck in the final sprint.  I just barely held him off, and we finished one-two in the B race.  The C group was also flying, and Michael had a bunch of PRs en-route to a second-place finish. Meanwhile, Melissa continued to demonstrate that she has been using her injury recovery time to get even stronger, throwing down 3.7 w/kg to earn herself a ticket to Cat B next week.

Speaking of next week, now that winter is here, we will wrap up this fall season of racing next Monday with a special extra-long race for double points, before taking a couple weeks off and rebooting the series in the new year.

Tonight's results:

1. Jonathan O'Keeffe - 1 of 13 (B race)- 100.0 points
2. Kevin Weinman - 2 of 13 (B race)- 92.3 points
3. Michael Bello - 2 of 8 (C race)- 87.5 points
4. Zinj Guo - 7 of 13 (B race)- 53.8 points
5. Melissa Warwick - 6 of 8 (C race)- 41.3 points
6. Charlie Bailey - 10 of 13 (B race)- 30.8 points

Overall series standings after eight weeks:

1. Jonathan O'Keeffe (8 races) - 713.6 points
2. Michael Bello (8 races) - 692.1 points
3. Kevin Weinman (7 races) - 604.6 points
4. Zinj Guo (8 races) - 485.9 points
5. Melissa Warwick (4 races) - 217.4 points
6. Charlie Bailey (7 races) - 198.5 points
7. Jeremy Coleman (1 race) - 100.0 points
8. Chris Johnson (1 race) - 76.9 points
9. Mike Hempstead (2 races) - 39.7 points

Definitely a night just to hang on for dear life...the all-group field was flying. Last race we did on this track, a mixed group of A/B's came across at 25:09 with JOK, me, and Zinj taking the all-NCC podium in the B. Tonight, it took an insane 24:01 and just shy of 30 mph for JOK to win the B. Great effort!
