The NCC's summer/fall Monday night road race series wraps up on Monday October 5 at 6:30 PM with a super-size series finale on France's Douce France course, two laps of the course for a total of 31 miles.  We will be awarding double points for this final race of the series.  These are open-category, race-style events (mass start, use any bike you'd like, drafting is allowed, no late join). These events use Zwift's Meetup feature, and display race results on-screen immediately after the completion of the race.  The Strava segment for this course is at https://www.strava.com/segments/24676077.

After the series finale on 10/5, we will be taking a couple weeks off, and resuming with a new race format on Monday 10/26.  Stay tuned for details to come soon.

As with all Zwift Meetup events, these are invite-only events, with invites sent by the ride leader (Jonathan O'Keeffe for this series).  You must follow Jonathan on Zwift in order to get an event invite (you can do this through the Zwift Companion app on your phone). Feel free to email or post on the NCC discussion board if you'd like an invite and haven't received one.

Optional audio/video chat will be available on NCC's Discord channel at https://is.gd/nccdiscord.

As with all NCC competitions on Zwift, the NCC's Honesty Policy applies:

Honesty Policy:
  - Please remember, Zwift is a game and everyone participating in the TT or Hill Climb series is doing it for their own enjoyment.
  - Since Zwift uses power data (either from a power source or from calculated ZPower), riders are expected to have an accurate weight listed in Zwift.
  - If you use a power source (power meter or smart trainer), please calibrate it prior to the event.
  - If for some reason your times are unrealistic, the NCC may review your past rides to determine if the time is realistic. If needed, your placement may be adjusted.

Standings:
  - Each week, points will be awarded based on the number of competitors and your overall placing. For example, if there are 19 riders and you finish first, you will be awarded 19 points, second will get 18 points all the way down to the last rider, who will get 1 point.
  - At the end of the Zwift series, the rider with the most points will be awarded the NCC Zwift Road Race Series title.

This race is part of our weekly lineup of Zwift rides, as follows:
  - Mon 6:30 PM - Road Race (series concludes 10/5, new series begins 10/26)
  - Tue 8:00 PM - Social Ride
  - Thu 5:30 PM - Time Trial / Hill Climb (solo effort, TT bike required)
  - Sat 9:00 AM - Social Ride (weather dependent)

Follow Michael Bello and Jonathan O'Keeffe on Zwift for invites to these events.

Check the calendar page at www.nohobikeclub.org for full details on all events.

The final race of the summer/fall Monday Night Race Series featured Melissa, Zinj, and I on two laps of France's Douce France course, a flat loop with one small hill in the middle, for a total of 31 miles.  It was a well-matched group, and we stuck together pretty well for the first 20 minutes or so, before I started getting random power drops every few minutes, forcing me to spend much of the race chasing to get back to the lead group.  Zinj kept the pressure at the front and made this difficult, but I repaid the favor by putting in a few attacks once I would reconnect, which I hope made him hurt a little.  By the time we got to the end, I was gassed, and totally mis-timed the finishing push.  Melissa, on the other hand, was paying close attention, and dropped an aero helmet and launched a perfectly-timed sprint to blow past Zinj and I and easily take the win. Zinj nipped me at the line to get second.  We awarded double points for this super-size series finale.

1. Melissa Warwick - 6 points
2. Zinj Guo - 4 points
1. Jonathan O'Keeffe - 2 points

Final series standings:

1. Jonathan O'Keeffe (8 races) - 25.5 points
2. Melissa Warwick (7 races) - 17.5 points
3. Charlie Bailey (5 races) - 9 points
4. Michael Bello (5 races) - 7 points
5. Jamie Parr (1 race) - 4.5 points
6. Zinj Guo (1 race) - 4 points
7. Kevin Weinman (1 race) - 3 points

Thanks to everyone who came out and raced over the course of this series -- it was a lot of fun to hang out with folks during the races and try out a new race format.  Along those lines, we will be trying out a new race format when we start our next series in a couple of weeks.  We will still be racing on Monday nights, but this time we will be joining scheduled Zwift races and mixing it up with the whole online community.  More details to come soon on the race format.

Melissa for the win! Nice going!

And I see that Jonathan gave himself a first place for a third place finish. 😝
