Hi Everyone,
Would it really be safer to go mountain biking the woods? When people are being abducted from their homes, schools, and off the street in these United States? When government thugs are killing people with impunity? And, yes, many motorists do not like to share the road with cyclists. There are indeed people who might go out of their way to hurt people with whom they have a political disagreement.
I think, however, there is genuine safety in numbers, but only if those numbers are intensely and undeniably obvious. Really large numbers. A full-scale bike strike. United we stand, right?
I'm sure there are some on this list who want to keep their cycling free from political engagement. As many of us know, the bicycle has a long and honorable tradition as a vehicle for political expression. As many of you know, the reason this country began building safe roads that were passable in all seasons was the bicycle, not the automobile. When you peddle your own vehicle, you are asserting your power as an individual citizen. That is a political statement.
Would anyone like to meet with me to talk about how cyclists can make a difference?
