Watch Out For Potholes, They Are Worse This Year

Our DPW’s website confirms our opinion that 38% of Northampton’s roads are in terrible condition and require Base Rehabilitation (digging up the asphalt and subbase and replacing it).  This is obviously expensive, but provides the long term solution.  Unfortunately there is not adequate funding so we are not catching up with it.  Thus potholes are filled and new potholes replace them, i.e. it keeps getting worse.

 I suggest that everyone take photos of the potholes and report them to DPW’s website https://northamptonma.gov/forms.aspx?FID=64.  You do need to report the street address.  

If you crash due to a pothole that has been reported, you can file a claim and be compensated.  This may help convince our leaders that we need to do long term repairs.

It is also potentially deadly. I hit a pothole in May ‘24 and it nearly killed me. if it had not been for God telling a young girl and her mother who happened to see me go down and pulled my unconscious body out of the street and called 911.

When I report a pothole to the DPW I include a photo of the closest house with address or the nearest intersection.  I have found them to be pretty responsive to complaints.
