Hi NCC Friends,
Tour of the Hilltowns is coming up soon. June 15 (yes, June this year). This club event requires the most volunteers compared to any other event we put on. Mostly, volunteers are required for us to run a safe race- those essential spots such as corner marshals and follow vehicles. We have pro racers and amateur racers that come from up and down the east coast just for our race.
A volunteer coordinator is an essential person on race day. You'd sign in and direct the 60 or more people that have stepped up to help us out for the day. You'd be there to answer questions from volunteers and possibly race participants. You would take the lead on volunteer instructions and questions prior to race day. Prior experience working at any event is helpful, but not necessary. The biggest time commitment is race day- to be there from dawn to dusk. Some additional time leading up to race day for meetings and e-mails is also necessary.
The race directors really could use this assistance, as there are so many other issues to deal with on the morning of the race. It also helps our generous volunteers if they have a single point of contact to refer to.
Unfortunately, we can't offer any cash for this job... the pay is the satisfaction of assisting with keeping going a quality classic New England road race, of which we are one of the few left.
If you are interested, or know someone who is, please contact me off-list.
If you can't commit to being a coordinator, please consider signing up for one of the many spots available for the day (it really is cool to watch the pros race up E. Hawley!) :
