On Tuesday at 8 PM, I’m planning the Beach Island route in Watopia. (https://www.strava.com/segments/26741693). This will be a 60 minute ride.
If anyone is interested, just follow me on Zwift (Michael Bello - NCC) and I'll add you to the invite. If you follow me, please send me a note.
A few recommendations...
Zwift now allows late joiners to Meetups. Give yourself a few extra minutes to join the ride anyway (on Zwift 5 minutes before the ride would be ideal).
Please wear the NCC jersey. This makes it easier to recognize who is in the group. On a computer, log into Zwift, once riding, press “P” on you keyboard and enter NCCMAKIT. After that, you can use the jersey on any device running Zwift (laptop, tablet, phone, etc.).
Our previous rides were enhanced with conversations on Discord. After installing Discord, ˙˙use the NCC invite to join the conversation: https://discordapp.com/invite/uXdHm7m.
If you are new to Discord, I recommend this article on ZwiftInsider: https://zwiftinsider.com/using-discord/. Please pay particular attention to Step 4: "Discord automatically places you in the text chat channel, which isn’t where you want to be. Click the hamburger menu (3 lines at top-left) to view all the channels on the server. Click “General” under voice channels, then click “Connect to Voice” to join the general voice chat."
I also recommend testing Discord out prior to the ride. Feel free to contact me if you want to test Discord.
For the final NCC Zwift activity of 2020, we had nine riders (Ari, Charlie, Chris, John, Kevin, Marcus, Melissa, Zinj, and me). We did multiple laps of the new Beach Island Loop in Watopia.
In our 60 minutes, we went approximately 19.2 miles with 409 feet of climbing.
After last night's 40 mile Zwift race, many of us were tired today. We all agreed to a relaxed pace. Zinj did not even attempt his five minutes of power.
Tonight's Discord discussion was all over the place. We talked a lot about last night's race and everyone's breaking point in the event. John filled us in on his daughter's life guarding studies. Marcus likes to sprint up the backside side of Round Hill Road in Northampton because it is a short steep climb. Zinj and Chris discussed different power meters.
We came upon a rider who was wearing a Fortuna jersey. We could not make out the purple object on the back. We thought it was a horse, then a hippo, someone suggested a slug lifting weights. Melissa thought it was a dress. Riders in our peleton were dropping back to see what this object could be. After looking at the photo (attached), I believe Melissa was correct and it was a dress.
Charlie, Chris, John, Kevin, Marcus, Melissa, Zinj, and I earned the Beach Island Loop route achievement, which doubled our XP points for the first lap.
Chris completed level 31 and earned a Newsy Cap for his avatar. Marcus got the You're Popular badge for receiving 10 Ride Ons in one ride. Melissa completed level 28 and got an S-Works Helmet. John now has the NCC popular Zwift orange cycling cap, which he got after completing level 24.
As a reminder, there is no HC/TT for this weeks (12/31). We will complete the last two events of the Fall series in January. We will have a New Year's Day (12 PM) ride.
Here is the NCC Zwift schedule:
- Mon afternoon - Road Race (times will vary between 5 PM and 7 PM EST)
