On Saturday morning Michael Bello and I are riding on some dirt, gravel, forest roads, pavement, and well maintained trails from Cushman Market up to the northern part of the Quabbin before looping back toward Lake Wyola and down through Rattlesnake Gutter. About 45 miles and 3472 ft of climbing (see the route link below). We plan on a no drop moderate pace ride with a return around 12:00 to 12:30. If you'd like to join us please let me know. Thanks!

That sounds good Rob. What time are you starting? Also …. Rain or shine?

Let's meet 8:30 at Cushman. Rain or imminent rain and we'll postpone. I'll send out an update here Saturday AM.

Hi Rob,

I'd like to join you on Saturday morning.

And for anyone else who'd like to join me, I'm planning to leave from downtown Northampton at 6:30am and ride to Cushman via Nash Hill and Whately, about 31 miles. Let me know off-list if you'd like to meet up for the ride to the ride.

Cheers,
Alex

The weather forecast for Sunday morning looks much more reliable than tomorrow. Who would be up for going Sunday instead?

I'm up for riding whichever day ultimately has better weather.

Having had some recent rain will hopefully lessen the amount of dust
kicked up in a group on things like Pratt Corner anyway.

That said while I really want to explore east through Wendell to the
Quabbin, and starting from Cushman rather than Northampton makes that
feel much more plausible, it's possible I might find I personally need
to split off to cut things shorter on my own. Looks like there are
good options for that either on gravel Montague/Dudleyville or paved
Wendell Road past Wyola, both being routes I've previously taken to
Rattlensake, or else later on from New Salem it looks like turning
left on that Wendell Road rather than right would be gentle paved
descent cutting off the easternmost Quabbin portion of the loop.

Time to go remount the gravel tires - had been thinking I'd do that
for some things next week anyway.

Chris it seems like every time I see the forecast it changes. Now tomorrow isn't looking better. I plan to post an update tonight. There are many places to split off if you like.

Hi again everyone. Thanks for your replies. Sorry if there has been any confusion. The latest weekend forecast has improved for tomorrow morning. So let's go with our original plan - Tomorrow (Saturday) at 8:30 at Cushman. If things dramatically change I'll post an update here @ 7:30 AM tomorrow. Otherwise let's meet up and roll out.

I should also mention that since we'll be in woods at times, some bug repellent may be useful. Also there will be two good opportunities for stopping snd refueling - New Salem General Store and Levertt Coop.
