For the NCC's fall 2024 road race series, we are joining organized Zwift races, racing against each other as well as other riders. Scoring is based on how you finish relative to other riders in your category.
The Week 1 race will be on Thursday October 10, 6:30 PM EST. The race we are entering is the "Rhino Racing Short Crits " (
https://www.zwift.com/events/view/4537820). The race is 5 laps of the Glasgow Crit Circuit course in Scotland, for about 9.5 miles total. Each category in this week's race will ride separately. You can register for the race ahead of time in your browser at the link above, or you can join the race on the spot when you start Zwift by finding it in the event list on the home screen. You may need to scroll the event list on the home screen to find the race. We encourage you to sign up in advance, as this makes it easier and faster to enter the race when you enter the game.
Note that start times for these Thursday races will vary from week to week, depending on the Zwift event schedule, but will generally start between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. There is no late join option for organized races on Zwift, so make sure you're ready to go ahead of the scheduled start time.
Scoring will be based on the results published by ZwiftPower (
https://zwiftpower.com/). You must be registered for a free account on ZwiftPower in order for your results to be counted. If you're not already registered on ZwiftPower, be sure to sign up in advance of the race, as it takes a little while to get your Zwift account linked to your ZwiftPower account. You should also join the NCC team on ZwiftPower (
https://zwiftpower.com/team.php?id=227) so that I can pick you out in the results.
Zwift racing categories are a little different this year with the introduction of new Zwift Racing Score, which is intended to automatically sort riders into the correct categories. Some races (including this one) are using this new system, while others are using the older w/kg category system. If you haven't been doing any racing this fall, Zwift will probably suggest joining Category D, but I'd recommend joining the same category you were racing in last year. If you have already been racing this fall, then you should use the category that Zwift recommends. Women racing in any open (mixed-gender) category will receive a 30% point bonus.
Scoring is based on how well you place relative to the other riders in the race. The maximum possible points for a race is 100 points. If there are 100 people in your race, and you finish 1st, you will receive 100 points. If you finish 2nd, you will receive 99 points. If you finish last, you will receive 1 point. If there are 10 people in your race, 1st place is worth 100 points, 2nd place is worth 90 points, etc. In general, Points = (100 * (B + 1)) / N, where B is the number of riders you beat, and N is the total number of riders in the race.
Optional audio/video chat will be available on NCC's Discord channel at
