NCC Zwift Fall Hill Climb/Time Trial will start in a few weeks. While we are on hiatus, I thought trying something new on Zwift would be fun.

On Thursday, there is a Zwift Crit City Race at 5:45 PM. A few of us from the Tuesday group ride are planning on entering the C category, but join whatever division you would like.

Here is a link to the event: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1080978

ROUTE: Crit City
LAP DISTANCE: 1.9 km (1.2 mi)
ELEVATION GAIN PER LAP: 7.9 m (26 ft)
LAPS: 8
TOTAL DISTANCE: 15.2 km (9.6 mi)

We will be on Discord communicating and working as a team where possible.

If you want to join the NCC team on ZwiftPower there are instruction in the NCC Zwift Guide (page 16).

Be sure to warm up in advance. Zwift races start very fast!

As we await the start of the NCC Zwift Fall Hill Climb/Time Trial series in a few weeks, three of us tried a Zwift Crit.

Charlie, Melissa, and I entered the C category. It was nice having a team. In total there were 34 riders in the C division.

Each lap was 1.2 miles around Zwift's Crit City. In total, the race was 9.6 miles.

Over the eight laps, the grand majority of the group stayed together. About half a mile from the finish, I lost the group.

Unfortunately, Charlie and Melissa put out too much power for the C division and got disqualified by ZwiftPower! There were a lot of riders in the same situation. I finished 10th, 19.6 second behind the winner. The #11 finisher was 1:54 behind the winner, so I truly lost the front pack, which included Carlie and Melissa, at the very end.

Here are today's NCC Times:

Charlie Bailey; 21:53; 3.55 w/kg (248w); DQ
Melissa Warwick; 21:54; 3.77 w/kg (217w); DQ
Michael Bello; 22.10; 3.2 w/kg (243w); 10th place

Here is the NCC Zwift schedule:

- Tue 8:00 PM - Social Ride (Follow Michael Bello on Zwift for invite)
- Thu 5:30 PM - Time Trial / Hill Climb (solo effort, TT bike required - Follow Michael Bello on Zwift for invite)

Zwift power has been barking at me for a while now.

Jonathan - do you know the difference between the UPG and WKG codes? I’ve gotten the UPG code before but the WKG is new for me.

You got me curious. I found this link describing the codes:

Charlie -

Michael's link has full details. The short version is that UPG means that you entered the wrong category -- in your case, ZP has you listed as a B (based on your past results) but you entered the C race. This applies regardless of the power you actually produced in the race. This prevents me, for instance (a mid-to-high range B rider) from entering a C race and dialling back my power output just to take an easy win.

WKG means you entered the correct category, but you went over the category limits. So if I entered a B race and ended up with 4.5 w/kg, I would get DQed with the WKG code. The details for this are actually more complicated, with several exceptions, and a margin of error. Michael's link has the full details.

If both cases apply (as in your race yesterday) I think UPG takes precedence.

Thanks for the link, Michael. It was good to read bout the power "rules" for Zwift. I have a question (or maybe observation?). My w/kg were high, but my overall watts weren't that high. I know that is due to my weight. My understanding is that on a flat course someone's w/kg aren't as meaningful as overall watts, because weight is less of a factor. So, am I doomed (to be DQ) on these flat races because I have to put out more w/kg just to go at the same speed as others? I hope I am being clear. I am still learning about all of this. :)

I believe ZwiftPower uses the 95% of the best 20 minutes during the race. You should be fine in the B races.

Next time we will have to do a category B race and I'll have to hang on as long as I can!
