It is time for the grand finale of the Summer NCC Zwift Hill Climb/Time Trial  Series.

This week is the hardest challenge to date in the series.

The Hill Climb will be in Watopia.

Distance: 7.59 miles
Avg Grade: 8%, 3,428 feet of climbing
Strava Climb Category: HC
Way to Get there: Road to the Sky or Tour of Ice and Fire route

For the group ride, we will ride the Tour of Ice and Fire route, which will provide an 8 mile lead into the climb.

Since this will be an extra long hill climb, we will award double points. We will also award an extra point if you earn a Strava PR on the Alpe du Zwift segment.

Please remember to use a time trial bike.

There will be two options for the weekly challenge. Here are the details:

1. NCC Group ride at 5:30 PM. Please follow “Michael Bello - NCC” on Zwift for an invitation. We will be chatting on Discord throughout the ride.
2. Ride the route at any point in the day and e-mail mbello at nohobikeclub.org so your results can be counted.

For complete details, rules, how to change to a TT bike, etc., please refer to the NCC Zwift Guide (https://www.nohobikeclub.org/ncc2017/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/NCC-Zwift-Guide.pdf).

If the HC/TT route is not in the day's rotation, please refer to this ZwiftInsider article about setting up your own meet up: https://zwiftinsider.com/meetup-only-view/.

Here is a summary of the Hill Climb/Time Trial rules:

Rules:
- Must be a member of the NCC’s Strava Club
- Must have your Strava ride viewable to the Everyone (otherwise we cannot tally the results)
- Must use a Time Trial bike for both the hill climb and time trials. This prevents drafting. A time trial bike is available in the Zwift Garage.
- The use of Power Ups is not allowed in Time Trial or Hill Climb events.

Honesty Policy:
- Please remember, Zwift is a game and everyone participating in the TT or Hill Climb series is doing it for their own enjoyment.
- Since Zwift uses power data (either from a power source or from calculated ZPower), riders are expected to have an accurate weight listed in Zwift.
- If you use a power source (power meter or smart trainer), please calibrate it prior to the event.
- If for some reason your times are unrealistic, the NCC may review your past rides to determine if the time is realistic. If needed, your placement may be adjusted.

Standings:
- Each week, points will be awarded based on the number of competitors and your overall placing. For example, if there are 19 riders and you have the best time, you will be awarded 19 points, second will get 18 points all the way down to the last rider who will get 1 point).
- At the end of the Zwift series, the rider with the most points will be awarded the NCC Zwift Series title.

Today was the eleventh and final event in the NCC Zwift Summer Hill Climb/Time Trial Series.

We will start the Fall series in a few weeks. If you are interested in trying the Hill Climb/TT series, please join us. We will all start with zero points.

Alpe du Zwift is a long and challenging climb. It is a copy of the Alpe D'Huez climb, which is often featured in the Tour de France.

The route is 7.59 miles with 22 switch backs. The 8% gradient took us up 3,400 feet of climbing.

With such a massive climb, there were double points on the line this evening. In addition, an extra point was awarded for Strava PRs.

All eight riders participated in the group ride. At the official start time of 5:30, we surprised Jonathan by singing Happy Birthday to him on Discord. John even brought a musical instrument for the occasion.

Here are today's results:

Place, Name, Time, Speed, Points
1. O'Keeffe, Jonathan; Time: 53:42; 8.5 mph; 16 points
2. Eichenlaub, Justin; Time: 61:49*; 7.5 mph; 15 points
3. Bailey, Charlie; Time: 63:39; 7.2 mph; 12 points
4. Condon, Sean; Time: 66:49; 6.8 mph; 10 points
5. Bello, Michael; Time: 69:21; 6.6 mph; 8 points
6. Warwick, Melissa; Time: 70:12; 6.5 mph; 6 points
7. Gorton, John; Time: 81:02; 5.6 mph; 4 points
8. Blake, Teddy; Time: 91:04; 5 mph; 2 points

Thanks for the birthday song at the start, guys.  That was a big surprise, and very funny.

And big thanks to Michael for organizing this!

What a great ending to the season. A big bummer with your technical difficulties Michael, so glad you were able to complete the ride eventually. I’m looking forward to the fall series. Thanks for everything you do to make this happen Michael!
