Hello,
My name is Phil Hempstead. My friend and I are taking a semester off from college to ride our bikes across the country from Cape Cod to Oregon to raise money for Rock The Vote. We are planning to leave the 3rd or 4th week of August.
I am writing to see if anyone in the club has bikepacking gear they would like to rent or sell. We have money to spend on gear, but we want to see what we can get used first to try to keep our expenses down.
We would also be interested to potentially buy used gravel or CX bikes for the trip because we plan to do a mix of pavement and dirt. We are both between 5’10” and 5’11” so probably a 56cm frame would be about right. I do have an old CX bike I may use, but it is a little small and has cantilever brakes and tubular wheels. If I do end up using that bike, I will need clincher wheels if anyone has a set of those to sell/rent.
For the bikepacking gear we are looking for handlebar bags, large seat bags, frame bags, compact and light tents/sleeping bags/sleeping pads and cooking equipment. We are planning to go light with a bikepacking setup as opposed to bike racks.
Thank you for considering this. You can also email or call/text me directly at:

It is 5’1 and it can do a good combination of gravel and road.I’m moving to Zurich and I can’t take it with me. The bike rack is very solid and I always transported lots of groceries on it!I have ortlieb bike bags but I was planning to take them with me. I really recommend you to use bike bags. They will make your life easier on the road!Let me know if you are interested and I’ll make a nice price once you are using it for a good cause! :-)Best,Luiz<IMG_20200709_182643.jpeg>
