For the NCC's fall road race series, we will be joining organized Zwift races, racing against each other as well as other riders. Scoring will be based on how you finish relative to other riders in your category.
The Week 9 race will be the final race of our fall season, and will be on Monday December 28, 6:35 PM EST. The race we are entering is called "3R 50km LONDON-Greater London Flat Race (52km/32.4mi)" (
https://www.zwift.com/events/view/1407111). The race is five laps of the Greater London Flat course in London, for about 39.8 miles total. All categories in this week's race will ride together. You can register for the race ahead of time in your browser at the link above, or you can join the race on the spot when you start Zwift by finding it in the event list in the upper right corner of the startup screen. Note that start times for these races will vary, depending on the Zwift event schedule, but will generally start between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. There is no late join option for organized races on Zwift, so make sure you're ready to go ahead of the scheduled start time.
The extra-long season finale will be worth double points, so there is lots of opportunity for big moves on the series leaderboard. Note that despite the "32.4mi" label in the event title, this race is actually five laps of the 7.2 mile course, plus a 3.5 mile lead-in, for a total distance of almost 40 miles. Expect to be on the bike for about 90 minutes if you're near the front of the B group, and about five or ten minutes longer in the C group.
Scoring will be based on the results published by ZwiftPower (
https://zwiftpower.com/). You must be registered for a free account on ZwiftPower in order for your results to be counted. If you're not already registered on ZwiftPower, be sure to sign up in advance of the race, as it takes a little while to get your Zwift account linked to your ZwiftPower account. You should also join the NCC team on ZwiftPower (
https://zwiftpower.com/team.php?id=227) so that I can pick you out in the results.
Zwift races have four categories - A, B, C, and D. You must enter at least the category specified by the "Minimum Category" setting on your ZwiftPower account. You can race up a category if you'd like, but you cannot race down (a Category B rider can enter the B race or the A race, but cannot race with the C race). Riders racing up a category will receive a 10% point bonus. Women racing in any open (mixed-gender) category will also receive a 10% point bonus.
Scoring is based on how well you place relative to the other riders in the race. The maximum possible points for a race is 100 points. If there are 100 people in your race, and you finish 1st, you will receive 100 points. If you finish 2nd, you will receive 99 points. If you finish last, you will receive 1 point. If there are 10 people in your race, 1st place is worth 100 points, 2nd place is worth 90 points, etc. In general, Points = (100 * (B + 1)) / N, where B is the number of riders you beat, and N is the total number of riders in the race.
