Brother and Sister Cyclists:

I'd like to work with other cyclists – NCC and beyond – to organize more protest rides like the one held last week in Northampton. (I was away on a work trip and could not participate.)

What I'd really like to do is to partner with other cycling advocacy groups to organize massive bicycle rides in protest against what I believe is the most horrendous and un-American regime in our country's history.

Thoughts?

Not so sure this is a safe thing to do. There are already many motorist that don’t like having to share the road with us. Now, if you add political views, it might get crazy out there. Just a thought ….

Hi Everyone,

Would it really be safer to go mountain biking the woods? When people are being abducted from their homes, schools, and off the street in these United States? When government thugs are killing people with impunity? And, yes, many motorists do not like to share the road with cyclists. There are indeed people who might go out of their way to hurt people with whom they have a political disagreement.

I think, however, there is genuine safety in numbers, but only if those numbers are intensely and undeniably obvious. Really large numbers. A full-scale bike strike. United we stand, right?

I'm sure there are some on this list who want to keep their cycling free from political engagement. As many of us know, the bicycle has a long and honorable tradition as a vehicle for political expression. As many of you know, the reason this country began building safe roads that were passable in all seasons was the bicycle, not the automobile. When you peddle your own vehicle, you are asserting your power as an individual citizen. That is a political statement.

Would anyone like to meet with me to talk about how cyclists can make a difference?

Alex

...but protests in the woods are less effective.  :)

Most effective is coordinated.  I did the ride in Manhattan.  I agree we are very vulnerable.

Are there ways we can work together? Maybe volunteer to do free repairs, ...a positive protest, where we are disarmingly helpful and tactfully informative.  Earth day, Black history month Major Taylor event...
