Hi everyone,
Thank you all for joining our Annual General Meeting! It was wonderful to see such a great turnout and feel the positive energy in the room. This Club thrives because of the people who step up, give back, and stay engaged, and I’m truly grateful to each of you for being part of this community. Here’s a quick recap of what we covered and what’s next:
Election Results & Bylaw Proposals
- Congratulations to our newly elected and re-elected Officers:
- Raul de la Guardia - President
- Kiana Clark - Secretary
- Will Breslin - Treasurer
- Chad Hansen - Men's VP
- Maggie Olney - Womxn's VP
- Paige Roller - High School VP
- Board Directors elected to 3-year terms:
- Charles Simmonds
- Abigail Neff
- Genevieve Cohen
- Grace Murphy
- Both bylaw proposals passed:
- The first formalizes our Ranked-Choice Voting system and sets a 59% cap on Board representation from any single team side.
- The second, passed unanimously, defines four membership classes — Active, Social, Alumni, and Associate — to clarify roles and rights.
Financial & Program Updates
- The Club holds about $250,000 in cash, with $100,000 in CDs earning 3–4% interest.
- The New York Sevens tournament once again led the way, generating about $26,000 in profit to help offset operational costs.
- Womxn’s Rugby: The team competed in D1, with strong numbers supporting the goal of bringing back a second side.
- Men’s Rugby: The D2 team earned a top-two playoff spot, and the D4 team won the EGU Championship! We’re also recruiting coaches to strengthen consistency across teams.
Opportunities & Upcoming Events
- Please make the most of corporate matching programs and share any sponsorship leads — these help keep our Club strong and sustainable.
- Planning is already underway for two big milestones:
- In 2027, the 30th anniversary of the Gotham City Women’s Rugby Club merger
- In 2029, the Club’s 100th anniversary
We’d love volunteers, photos, and videos to help bring these celebrations to life!
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to our departing Board Directors and Officers for their dedication and service. Your work has made a lasting impact on this Club. I also want to give a shout out to the candidates who ran for a position, but were not elected: thank you for putting your hand up to help the Club and please continue to do so. We will always have a need for people like you!
We’re heading into another exciting year, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together!
For the Club,
Charles
