The Cranston Public
Library is seeking an extraordinary candidate for the position of Librarian I –
Public Services and Outreach Librarian. The Cranston Public Library (CPL)
system consists of a central library with five branch locations. CPL serves a
population of 83,000 residents and is one of the busiest public libraries in
Rhode Island. CPL is a national recognized award-winning library and most
recently received the 2020 Library
Journal/Jerry Kline Community Impact Prize. CPL is a member of the Ocean State

Position Description
Under supervision of the Library Director, this
position
provides outreach services to the Cranston community.
This is a 35 hour per week union position with some nights and weekends
required.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library Science from an institution
accredited by the American Library Association. One year of experience in a public library. Valid Rhode Island
driver’s license with satisfactory driving record required.

general and public library service in particular.

- Experience
with integrated library systems.
- Knowledge
of current technological applications for information access. Ability to utilize
web-based and subscription databases.
- Basic
skills with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Essential Job Functions
- Schedules,
travels to and implements community outreach programming to deliver and
promote library services.
- Manages
homebound delivery services to patrons enrolled in the program. Enrolls
new patrons; works with other departments to select materials, manages
delivery of materials and volunteer delivery drivers.
- Coordinates
the library’s English as a Second Language (ESL) and citizenship classes.
Assists in and promotes services to international language community in
Cranston.
- Manages
and schedules visits for Branch7 the library outreach van. Drives van and
conducts outreach visits across the city. Selects books to purchase for
Branch7.
- Coordinates
partnerships with community organizations aligned with the library’s
mission and values. Represents the library at community events.
- Coordinates
and schedules all public art exhibits at the library. Selects artists to
exhibit at the library.
- Assists
library users on the use of library services. Substitutes for professional
staff in the library system as needed.
- Collects
data on outreach programs and services.
- Operates,
troubleshoots and provides instruction on all library-owned technology, and
maintains a collection of outreach-specific tools including hotspots,
laptops, and other mobile technology.
- Stays
informed about professional and community developments affecting the
library and librarianship. Participates in continuing education
opportunities within and beyond the library system.
- Performs
other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Must
be able to push carts and bins loaded with library materials.
- Must
be able to reach and retrieve library materials at high and low shelf
heights.
- Must
be able to drive a van and load and unload program materials from a van.
Other Information
- Background and Criminal
Investigation (BCI) is required. Rhode Island driving record is required.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range is $53,676 - $73,449.
Full benefits package including vacation, paid sick leave, dental
insurance, health insurance, life insurance, state pension plan, and optional
deferred compensation plan.
