Hello Colleagues and Friends!

We still have several seats left in our three-credit 100% online and asynchronous LIBR 1020 Library Youth Services course for the Spring 2026 semester in the Library Technology Certificate Program at CT State Three Rivers.

Key information and deadlines:

Classes begin: February 6, 2026.

About the course:

The LIBR 1020 - Library Youth Services course provides a critical study of literature for children and young adults, this course is designed to introduce students to the basic elements for bringing literature and readers together. The study includes a variety of literary forms such as folklore, poetry, fiction, drama, and nonfiction, and discussions of writers, illustrators, storytelling, and library programming from early childhood to young adulthood. This is an approved course by the American Library Association-Library Support Staff Certification for the Youth Services competency set.

About the instructors:

Linda Williams:
Before coming to the Library Technology Certificate Program, Linda Williams served as the YA and Children’s Consultant for the Connecticut State Library. Linda has been a true advocate for libraries and young adult and children’s librarians throughout state and nationally. She has planned groundbreaking, signature diversity and children’s literacy programs, and has developed comprehensive resource guides to support these programs. As school media specialists dwindle in the state, Linda took it upon herself to forge new alliances with resource challenged school libraries, assisting them with developing and maintaining collections on small budgets; maximizing space and ensuring that they have the tools to provide literacy support to their curriculum Among her many accolades, Linda was been the esteemed winner of the Faith Hektoen Award, for her career achievement in the field of children's services (2012).

Cathy Andronik:
Currently the Graduate Program Coordinator of the MEd Library Media Studies at Salem State University in Massachusetts, Cathy worked as a library media specialist for over two decades before she began teaching at several higher education institutions including Southern Connecticut State University and North Carolina Central University. Additionally, she has been a regular featured presenter for the Bureau of Education and Research Bellevue, Washington, in their professional development curriculum. Cathy has been actively involved with YALSA for over a decade, as well as the Nutmeg High School Book Award selection committee.
