Call for Chapters: The Practical Literacies Cookbook (ACRL)
New England library professionals are invited to contribute to The Practical Literacies Cookbook, an upcoming ACRL publication edited by Haley L. Lott (Roger Williams University, RI).
This volume will feature practice-based lesson plans, activities, and programs that extend information literacy into other essential areas of student learning. The goal is to help undergraduates build the durable, adaptable skills they need to thrive in college and in their future careers.
We are seeking 500–700 word “recipe” proposals that share creative, hands-on approaches to teaching or outreach. Proposals are welcome from librarians and library staff in all types of academic, public, and special libraries who support lifelong learning and practical literacy skill development.
Topics include:
Critical Engagement with Information and Society (media literacy, civic participation, detecting misinformation)
Building a Strong Financial Foundation (budgeting, credit, financial decision-making)
Understanding Rights, Responsibilities, and Contracts (legal literacies, privacy, copyright, workplace rights)
Designing Meaningful Careers and Futures (career readiness, networking, professional communication)
Proposal deadline: November 14, 2025

We especially encourage proposals from first-time authors, paraprofessional staff, and contributors from underrepresented or marginalized groups. If you have a creative idea that connects library instruction to real-world literacies, this is a great opportunity to share your work with a national audience.
