We have two opportunities for you to consider or to share with potential candidates. The Springfield City Library in western Massachusetts has two Children’s Librarian positions posted: one is part time, and the other full time. If you want to be considered for both part time and full time, apply for both jobs currently posted. Please note: The jobs have different closing dates. Your application has to be in the pool for us to be able to consider you, and you can quickly copy your application materials from one job to the other once you apply to one of the jobs. The annual salary for the full time job is $ 54,704.33, and the posting closes on Monday, May 25 at 11:59 pm Eastern; for the part time job, it’s $ 26,984.10, and the posting closes on Sunday, May 17 at 11:59 pm Eastern. The jobs are part of a union, and the contract includes a 2% raise effective July 1, 2026, as well as 13 paid holidays include Juneteenth and a generous benefits package. You will have the opportunity (optional) to earn more by working extra hours, including 5 hour shifts on Sundays, with Sunday hours paid at time and a half.

The Springfield City Library seeks applications Children's Librarians to work in the Children's Room at the Central Library, the heart of our busy library system. Come work at our forward-looking, award-winning public library. We are recruiting talented, community-engaged candidates for these jobs. The Children's Librarian is part of a four person team with shared responsibilities for collection development of print and non-print materials, programming, reference services, outreach, community engagement, and similar duties pertaining to children’s services, and assisting in developing and providing system-wide children’s services. Work is performed under the direction of the Children's Services Supervisor and the Adult & Youth Information Services Manager. 

 

The Central Library opened to the public in 1912. Admire its historic architecture and make use of our Community Room, Computer Lab, Art Wall, Teen Space, and dedicated children's program room to offer services and programs for visitors. Very popular with patrons throughout the day and evenings for computer and Wi-Fi use, programs, research, browsing, and community gatherings, it is located near downtown Springfield and adjacent to the Springfield Museums. We're looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree and the completion of an American Library Association-accredited Masters of Library Science. Candidates currently enrolled in an MLS program may also be considered. You'll need an excellent customer service orientation; and a "turned outward" approach to community engagement is ideal. Bilingual abilities desirable (English and Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, Arabic, Somali, Dari, or other community language).
