What do you want to see from ITS ?

Hi Everyone,  this is Marita.  I'm the new ITS chair.  
I'm also the director of the Levi Heywood Library in Gardner, and have previously worked at the Lynnfield Public Library and the Nashua, NH Public Library.  

The ITS Section has not been active lately, so I'm writing to ask you, what would you like to see from this section?

Thank you for reaching out! Congrats on assuming the Chair of ITS! I'm co-chair of our NHLA-ITS group, and we meet both once a month to share tech tips and tech news and developments. Not sure if that would work for NELA-ITS as well.

To Mark's point, thanks for reaching out! I don't think a monthly meeting would be necessary but perhaps an annual  meeting could benefit from this group? Perhaps to share tech tips and news.

Sorry for the late reply.

I am new to the group, so not sure what past participation at meetings was like. However, I know that one of the goals of ITS historically has been to host programs, workshops, etc. to help educate New England library professionals on technology topics. I'm not sure that meeting only once per year would allow us to further any such goals.

Hi Marita and everyone,

I know scheduling is always tricky, but I agree with Taylor that perhaps more often than once per year would be helpful. How about quarterly?

 

I’ve been appreciating programs where there is an option to attend virtually, as well as in person.

 

As far as particular programs or ideas, I feel like things are changing so rapidly I don’t even know what to ask for.

We used to have several programs at the annual NELA conference, and an all day event in the spring, including lunch. The spring events were very informative, but I would suggest starting with an event that was on a smaller scale - without a full meal.

I'm fine with meeting more often, especially virtually, but I think we should limit the number and length of programs initially.
