Hello everyone,

Our institutional repository is harvested by NDLTD.

In the past, we used the following services to verify that our ETDs were included in the NDLTD Union Catalog:

These URLs now return HTTP 503 errors. At the same time, I noticed that the NDLTD website now points users to Find ETDs, which lists several external service providers (such as OATD, BASE, La Referencia, etc.), and the FAQ states that NDLTD makes its Union Catalog available to service providers rather than maintaining its own search interface.

Does this mean that the Union Archive and Global ETD Search services have been officially discontinued? Is OATD now the recommended way to verify that a repository is being harvested by NDLTD, or is there another preferred method?

Thank you very much for any clarification.

Hi!

Many thanks for your message and questions.
For my information, please let me know (f...@ndltd.org) the name of your institution so we can be sure that feasible desired services are being provided by NDLTD.

Please note at the top of our page https://ndltd.org/thesis-resources/help-build-global-etd-search/ the following:
"Important Update: For many years, the University of Cape Town Digital Libraries Laboratory generously hosted the Global ETD Search and Union Catalog services on behalf of the NDLTD community. We are deeply grateful for their long-standing support and commitment to expanding global access to electronic theses and dissertations. These services have now been taken offline due to unresolved issues related to security, stability, and infrastructure. In collaboration with Virginia Tech University Libraries, we are planning a full redevelopment of the system to better meet current needs. In the interim, we encourage users to access open-access electronic theses and dissertations through the Open Access Theses and Dissertations (OATD) service, managed independently by Thomas Dowling at Wake Forest University."

Regarding the effort at Virginia Tech: we will launch a new (and improved!) version of the system hosted by Virginia Tech University Libraries later this summer and apologize for any inconvenience the outage caused.

Please let me know if there are any further questions.  Please also note that in connection with the Union Catalog and Global Search services, NDLTD Board member Dragana Stolić is working to establish a volunteer user group to advise these efforts.  Anyone interested should feel free to contact her or me.

Hoping this addresses your questions and concerns.  Thanks again for your interest in and support of the Global ETD efforts!  Warm regards, Ed Fox
