Subject: [DIGITAL-PRESERVATION] Help shape new resources to future-proof PhD theses

Would you like to help shape new, free resources designed to future-proof PhD theses?

The Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC), in collaboration with the Open Book Futures project, is undertaking a study to scope the requirements for resources and/or training materials that support the long-term preservation of electronic theses (e-theses).

As part of this work, we’re conducting a consultation to understand what training is most needed—the challenges, gaps in knowledge, and opportunities to better support effective e-thesis preservation.

We’re inviting responses from those working in higher education who are either:

  • involved in managing e-thesis submission workflows, or
  • involved in digital preservation activities

We would like you to take part in a short survey exploring current practices around the creation, submission and management of e-theses and identifying what’s needed to strengthen support for long-term preservation.

Click here to access the Survey.

The survey should take 10-15 minutes to complete and will be open until midday UTC on 16th January 2026. A full preview of the questions included is available.

Your input will directly inform the design of practical resources to help ensure that doctoral research remains discoverable and accessible for the long term. Thank you for taking the time to share your valuable experience and insights!

All the best,

Jen
