Hi SPI@ND members,
We have a really exciting opportunity we’d like to share where you can gain professional experience in science policy analysis, program evaluation, advocacy, and communication.
The Indiana Land Protection Alliance is looking to share their story in new ways and better communicate the value of land trusts and protected land – particularly as it relates to conservation and climate change. However, they lack the research and data needed to support their education and advocacy efforts. To that end, they are looking to collaborate with a graduate student on various research and communications projects.
From their Executive Director, Andrea Huntington: “I think it would be extremely beneficial to evaluate all of the different ways land trusts contribute to the state (i.e. green infrastructure, clean air/water, climate resilience, placemaking, talent attraction/retention, etc.) and generate an actual dollar value that could be shared with state lawmakers.”
Their upcoming strategic plan includes:
Launching a bi-partisan education committee
Partnering with the Hoosier Environmental Council, Conservation Law Center, and Nature Conservancy to provide staff training
Hosting field days around the state with the Department of Natural Resources Legislative & Public Policy Director, Caitlin Smith
Drafting speaking points/emails, crafting infographics, writing white papers and policy memos, etc.
If you’re ready to commit to this position or even just want to ask more questions and learn about what you’d be doing in this role, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Andrea! Note: they are potentially able to offer a small stipend for this work!
Best,
SPI@ND Executive Board
