Hello SPI@ND members!

We are so excited to have started off the 2021-2022 academic year with a great showing at our first monthly meeting last Thursday :) For those who couldn’t attend, find the slide deck from that meeting here. In it, you’ll find information on what science policy is, an intro to careers in science policy, and the many ways to get involved in science policy both within SPI@ND and in the larger world.

Part of getting involved includes committees and project teams! If you didn’t have a chance to sign up at Thursday’s meeting, we will have this Google form open for committee and project team sign-ups until next Wednesday, September 7th. We highly encourage getting involved — it's one of the best ways to gain important professional experience and buff up your CV/resume :) These opportunities include the science communication committee, policymaker engagement committee, memo-writing committee, and project teams for the Michiana Science Cafe, a state-level science policy fellowship for Indiana, and the 3rd Annual Indiana Science Communication Day.

Finally, mark your calendars and tell your friends about our upcoming events this semester:
  • The next monthly meeting will be Thursday, September 30th at 5:30pm in Duncan 134. Keep an eye out in the list-serv or our Facebook page for more details (including free food, as always!)
  • The Michiana Science Cafe is held the second Tuesday of the month, and will be either outdoors or over Zoom for the fall semester. The first event is on September 14th at 7pm at the Unity Gardens, where we will tour their outdoor facilities and learn about fall planting, extending the growing season, and how to close up a garden for the winter. You can stay up to date on details at the MSC Facebook group and in our list-serv.
Best,
