Alexander of Aphrodisias is the most influential—and most polarizing—ancient interpreter of Aristotle. His account of the human soul was a notorious target of criticisms (and invectives) throughout the centuries, but some hailed his as the most authentic, sober ancient version of Aristotelianism. The latter tendency has become more and more dominant since the mid-20th century. And recent decades witnessed a heyday of specialized Alexander-studies.
