Right-wing populists are gaining support in liberal democracies around the world. In considering how to respond to the spread of illiberal and antidemocratic views, liberals might wonder whether there is any guidance to be drawn from the work of John Rawls, the dominant figure in contemporary liberal political philosophy. Some would think this unlikely.
