Graduate Peer Observation Program

Have an experienced graduate student observe your class/tutorial/discussion section in this confidential, low-stakes opportunity for formative feedback! All observations will be scheduled before March 25, and on a first come, first served basis.

Fill out this form to send us your teaching schedule and preferred dates for observation. A trained graduate associate of the Kaneb Center will contact you and observe a day of your class. After the observation, you will meet for a short discussion on what went well and suggestions for improvement.

Upcoming Workshops

We invite you to sign up for any of the following pedagogy workshops this spring. All workshops will take place via Zoom unless otherwise noted. For more information and to register, click here

Gathering Early Semester Feedback
Research indicates that ongoing formative feedback from students and colleagues is the best way to improve teaching (National Research Council, 2003). Early semester feedback offers an opportunity to collect detailed information from students about how well your course is working. During this workshop participants will discuss the value of early semester feedback and review sample feedback forms. Participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm possible questions and begin crafting their own feedback forms.

Date: Tuesday, February 1
Time: 3:30-4:45 p.m.
Presenters: Kristi Rudenga, Director of ND Learning | Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence

Writing Effective Multiple Choice Questions
Multiple choice tests are easy to administer, but good and effective questions can be a challenge to develop. This workshop provides strategies, resources, and practice for designing questions that are fair, unambiguous, and appropriate.

Date: Thursday, February 3
Time: 2:00-3:15 p.m.
Presenters: Dan Hubert, Associate Program Director of Learning Outcomes and Assessment, ND Learning | Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence

New Blog Post

Engaging Your Students Through the Use of Peer Review, by Crystal DeJaegher

"Are you looking for ways to help students grow their skills when it comes to critiquing the work of others?  Would you like to assist them in their development of lifelong skills (e.g., preparing and receiving feedback, communicating with others effectively, collaboration) which translate to life outside of the classroom?  Consider incorporating peer review and using the Peer Review and rubric tools in Canvas to facilitate the process..."
