In this series, we’ll explore a variety of strategies to make our teaching more inclusive. This workshop will focus on the benefits of transparent communication and clear structures.

Improve Your Teaching & Student Learning With Classroom Research
Participants will explore the landscape of Discipline-Based Education Research (DBER) and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). Participants will brainstorm potential research goals, questions, and data for their own course. Applied learning research support services and resources such as survey/rubric design, video observations, consent forms, and umbrella IRB will be shared.

Date: Friday, January 28
Time: 1:00-2:15 p.m.
Presenters: G. Alex Ambrose, Director of Learning Research, ND Learning | Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence & Dominique Vargas and Emily Pitts Donahoe, Postdoctoral Fellows, ND Learning

Gathering Early Semester Feedback
Research indicates that ongoing formative feedback from students and colleagues is the best way to improve teaching (National Research Council, 2003). Early semester feedback offers an opportunity to collect detailed information from students about how well your course is working. During this workshop participants will discuss the value of early semester feedback and review sample feedback forms. Participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm possible questions and begin crafting their own feedback forms.

Date: Tuesday, February 1
Time: 3:30-4:45 p.m.
Presenters: Kristi Rudenga, Director of ND Learning | Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence
