Talk’s Abstract
Geospatial science is half the battle but we often lose focus of what’s happening on the ground when putting it to action with management teams. Bringing together everyone focused on an area from the field to the office unlocks the potential of the human systems of land management, thus facilitating better conservation and better science.
About the Speaker
Growing up working as a naturalist and ranger before studying and moving his career into technology and engineering, Aaron Kennedy saw the challenges faced by field teams working to conserve natural areas as a data management challenge. In the National Science Foundation's Innovation Corps program, he studied the human systems behind stewardship and conservation across the country, ranging from non-profits, private lands, and largely public governments, big and small. The research showed consistent operations challenges across all sectors: what happened in the office was getting lost in the field and vice versa. Aaron has worked with partners, including local open space teams, science-based non-profits, and public governments, to understand and solve these challenges. Today, he and his team at Outway, a technology for the people behind nature, work to solve these challenges for natural land managers by building solutions and sharing their research.
Information about Aaron and his talk is also in the attached flyer.
