Dear Community,
Our first Roundtable of the year is scheduled for Thursday, January 11, at 3:30 pm. Mark your calendars!
In this opportunity, the Gulf Ecosystem Initiative Offshore Wind and Fisheries Working Group will present a series of flash talks about the key lessons learned from their first meeting and discuss their upcoming work. The group looks forward to sharing their ideas and eliciting feedback from the broader community.
Join us in person at NCEAS (3rd Floor Lounge) or remotely via Zoom (https://ucsb.zoom.us/j/468789779?pwd=aklaUWYrNkNHMDduY2xEWDFyWU03Zz09).
This talk will be followed by a Happy Hour at NCEAS and a mixer at the Brewhouse (229 W Montecito St.). NCEAS will provide snacks and soft drinks for Happy Hour.
See and share the attached flyer with more information about this talk.
Abstract
The upcoming development of extensive offshore wind (OSW) energy presents the next major human intervention in marine ecosystems. OSW offers a myriad of benefits—including energy security, decarbonized energy production, and workforce development. It may also bring diverse and potentially complex social, economic, and ecological impacts. The NCEAS Gulf Ecosystem Initiative (GEI-Wind) has initiated synthesis science efforts to evaluate the potential impacts of OSW development on the region’s fish and fisheries. Our working group gathers diverse perspectives from a carefully selected group of scientists, managers, and stakeholders (participant list).
