Zdravím,

polští kolegové mě poprosili, jestli bych nemohl rozšířit tuto zprávu: V
přípravách je speciální číslo časopisu Atmosphere o srážkových úhrnech,
které by nás hydrology mohlo velmi zajímat. Viz

https://www.mdpi.com/journal/atmosphere/special_issues/Rainfall_Calculations

Jdná se o open acces časopis švýcarského nakladatelství MDPI. Určitě jej
dobře znáte.

S pozdravem a přáním všeho nejlepšího v novém roce,

O. Ledvinka

Dear all,

Let me invite you to a presentation of our colleague postdoc - Dr. Fanny Langerwisch entitled

Future drivers affecting vegetation and hydrology in Czech Republic – What are the combined effects and the possible trade-offs between climate change and land use change?

which will be given on January 8th, at 10:00, Czech University of Life Sciences, Faculty of Environmental Sciences - MCEV II, D424.

Abstract:

To estimate the effects of global change on the distribution and composition of vegetation and the availability of water is crucial to investigate possible strategies to mitigate the consequences of this change. To investigate that topic, we used the dynamic global vegetation and hydrology model LPJmL and applied a climate change and several land use scenarios.

In a first part of our project we investigated the effect of spatial resolution and climate input correction on the vegetation response for the example region of České středohoří. The results showed the pronounced effect of terrain topography as well the large discrepancy between coarse-scale climate and locally adapted climate. Our results thus give a hint on how sensitive modelled vegetation distribution is to climate input correction.

In a further step we conducted a country-wide investigation of the changes in vegetation, water availability and discharge, which are highly depending both on climate and land use. For this we developed scenarios with different coverages of land use and analyzed the changes in vegetation and discharge. Additionally to the ‘land use simulations’, we ran simulations with potential natural vegetation. We see a strong reaction of the overall carbon balance and water fluxes, including the discharge, depending on the intensity of land use and climate change. Our results therefor give a hint at the future development and indicate the theoretical potential of land use to mitigate the effects of climate change for Czech Republic.

Best regards,

Martin Hanel
