Hi Steve-

I brush my dog’s teeth not as often as I should but his breath is great, I use a coconut oil and baking soda paste I learned to make at home and I use a non-stick gauze pad around my finger. My first dog had bad breath whenever she had a dental issue and my second dog, all labs, never had good breath due to a stomach problem  like acid reflux, that plagued him all his life and we somewhat controlled with pepcid.

My pet GSD also has good breath and teeth, thank goodness. I’ve heard fresh chopped parsley added in small amounts with their meal helps.

Wags-

Annie and Iowa and GSD May dog

I brush my dogs’ teeth every day, with very few exceptions.  I use the rubber finger brush and Virbac dog toothpaste.

Igloo’s breath has always been good.  Krokus’s breath was bad when he was having teeth issues and had to go to the vet dentist. After he got his teeth cleaned, his breath stayed good for quite a while until he needed his teeth cleaned again, like 2-3 years, maybe more.  The bad breath seemed to come on more as he got older.

I used to think that dogs just naturally have dog breath, but now I think bad breath is a symptom of a problem and warrants some action.  Not an emergency, but something that needs looking into.

I brush my dog teeth every day with the brush that the rubber thing that fits on your finger and dog toothpaste.
I brush her pretty regularly sometimes I miss a day or two, but it really helps to keep the hair down and her shiny coat it also allows me to keep a good watch on any skin issues or potential pests.
For me that that’s been important for almost 50 years.
As far as dogs, bad breath, brushing the teeth helps also making sure that they get plenty of exercise so that their stress level is down and that they aren’t eating something they shouldn’t.
I agree, bad breath can be a sign of a health problem as well.
