Does the mobile app need access to MapIt?

Hi!

I'm considering putting out instance of MapIt behind a firewall so only our fixmystreet instance has access to it.

However I noticed that the example configuration for the mobile app lists mapit.mysociety.org in its list of hosts it can access.

Should the mobile app be able to talk directly to MapIt?

Apart from the mobile app, are there other reasons why we should keep our MapIt instance publicly available?

Hi Joe,
did you resolve this ?
If so, how did you populate the Mapit database ?
I can see how to do it but I am not sure how much data it needs ? Do you need to also load the post codes ? I would think that is the Geocoders job and not Mapit.
