Hey all,

I'm running the latest version of Franklin - has been working pretty nicely for a while now (other than my prints leaning this way and that). I had a strange failure today - my U motor got offset by about an inch midway (8 layers) into a print. I was just printing a simple cube, came to check on it and found this:

Any idea what could cause such a dramatic jump? The print finished, and I can see in the park position that the U motor is definitely higher than the V motor (they should be the same height in park). Unfortunately Franklin nukes its home once it finishes a print, so I have no way to check if something weird changed there.

Hi,

That is very strange. Were you there when it jumped? Did the move sound harsh?

If you don't want the position to be lost, uncheck the "sleep after job" box in
the global settings.

Thanks,
Bas

I was not present when it jumped. However, I had a more catastrophic failure today that I think is related. In short, my U belt snapped today. I suspect it was due to rubbing from a poorly aligned drive gear. Not sure how that relates to the other issues I've been experiencing, but it seems something has been catching on something else. I'll detail the failure in a new post since it is a separate problem.

Thanks for the tip on sleeping the printer.

I just found my house-mate's printer doing the same thing - a motor dramatically jumped from where 'home' should be. It just so happens that this also happened to his U motor.... Video here.
