This is a cross-posting and cross-forward from Erin.

If you are van certified, this is a great opportunity to offer your services for a really cool and culturally enriching event that showcases the copper country's indigenous roots.

ALSO....

Please, if you are not (yet) van certified, go to the link and follow the steps to be certified. It's important we have students that are van-certified.

Thanks!

Boozhoo, anii, Erin and Jacob!

Will Lytle suggested I contact you both. We have lined up funding through EPPSI for an MTU van to do "leapfrogging" for the duration of this weekend's Water Walk on Sunday (Saturday and Monday are taken care of by a Copper Harbor business and KBIC Tribe respectively). The only bug-a-boo is that the MTU van must be driven by a formally trained van pool driver--hence my reaching out to you. Walkers start at 6am, and the van would need to meet them up in Mohawk, then stay with them, leapfrogging people at the end to the front of the line throughout the day as they make their way down the Keweenaw to Houghton/Hancock (final destination being Good Shepherd Lutheran for feast at 6p). Driver would then be free to return the van to the pool at that time as we have plenty of local vehicles that could transport out of town participants to various lodging arrangements. (Of course, we hope the driver could participate in feast with us, as well.)

The van is an integral piece to the Walk, considering the long distances being covered, and also as a crucial warming and resting place as the weather has turned so cold so suddenly. It also carries the snacks, water, and first aid for the Walkers for the day.

Can you help? If yes, THANK YOU! And, if not, please, please, please suggest alternative people/orgs. The actual van request needs to come from a student org in order to qualify for EPPSI funding. Please call me at your earliest convenience. (906) 370-5830 I am cc:'ing director of EPPSI and Kathy Halvorsen and Bucky Beach as people Kelly thought may also be able to suggest student org options with trained drivers. If any of you have ideas, we are most grateful for them!

Miigwech, miigwech, miigwech!
