Good afternoon ASPEN members and social science graduate students,
I would like to invite you to please consider submitting abstracts for any research or community work you may be currently developing, plan to develop, or are currently conducting to ISSRM 2020. This is an amazing opportunity to not only collaborate with other people at the nexus of people and natural resources, but it is also a chance to travel overseas, see the sights and sounds of everything Cairns, Australia has to offer, and dwell in a place that is undergoing significant socio-ecological transformation!
Please, I understand the costs of travel and the costs of conferencing are significant (I just looked up plane tickets and they range from $1700 to $2K right now for the June 23-26th dates), especially when we consider where we are at MTU and getting to a place like Cairns across the Pacific Ocean, but they do offer limited numbers of student scholarships to attend. These are due February 15th, so you should apply soon! There is a possibility that these scholarships will help defray the costs of travel. Furthermore, volunteers willing to sacrifice some time to help run the event (e.g. front desk registration, individual plenary and session venue hosting/proctoring duties, etc.) could also help cut the costs. Sometimes volunteer benefits could eliminate student registration fees.
Anyway, please see the website in the email for more details, and if you have specific questions please don't hesitate to ask me. Cheers!
Jake
