Good afternoon (again) ASPEN members and social science graduate students!

My name is Jacob Slattery, I am current secretary and president-elect of the Association of Students, People, Nature and Environment.

I am excited to share with you an opportunity to grow student involvement in the planning of this organization's national conference (this year held in Oshkosh, WI) called the INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON SOCIETY AND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (ISSRM).

This is seriously NOT one of these weird "we really care about your feedback, but not really because we don't really read your responses" type of opportunity. As a student member of the professional development committee for IASNR, I know that these people really do care, they proscribe student exclusion, and indeed recognize that they were once students too (many members of IASNR's committees are still students too!).

This is an excellent place where you can recommend ways that this organization can provide professional development opportunities that resonate your interests! These can be based on learning new qualitative or quantitative methods, professional development materials such as CVs or resumes, discussion over social theory, participatory research methods, organizing and submitting articles for review, grant writing, teaching philosophies and pedagogies or praxis, article reviewing and submitting book reviews, etc. The possibilities are endless, but we need you to communicate which specific areas are most resonant to your needs!

One idea pitched by a former ASPEN member and e-board member was to develop ways to publish a student only special issue of Society and Natural Resources (IASNR's premier journal). How cool is that!?

Please take some time to submit your thoughts, I am very much eager to hear any and all professional development ideas! Thank you!

Best,

Jake

International Association for Society and Natural Resources
________________________________________________________________

Greetings fellow IASNR members,

If we haven’t met yet, I’m Anne Junod, PhD candidate at Ohio State University’s School of Environment and Natural Resources - I’m the new Student Representative on IASNR Council. I’m also happy to virtually introduce Brett Alan Miller, PhD candidate in Sociology at Utah State University and the new Student Representative-Elect.

This year, Brett and I are committed to growing student involvement and leadership with IASNR. IASNR is the premier international science association fostering the study of human-natural resource relationships. IASNR has many ways to get involved and resources to offer student members, including opportunities to share research, grow professional networks, build science communication skills, and cultivate leadership. Presently, we are looking to grow the Student Affairs Committee (SAC) which plans and coordinates these and related endeavors.

Help we need from professional IASNR Members
If there is an undergrad or graduate student in your network conducting research or otherwise interested in the intersection of society and natural resources who is not involved with IASNR that you think would be interested, please forward this email on to them. We would love to connect with students who are interested in knowing more about IASNR or are looking for ways to build their CV by getting involved in student leadership, and we sincerely encourage those who might be interested to reach out to us so we can connect with them.

Student Members and Non-members
If you are already a student member of IASNR (or are interested in becoming one) and would like to get involved in student leadership with IASNR, please email Anne at jun...@osu.edu. It’s a great way to grow as a scholar, a colleague, and build your networks - not to mention your CV.

Whether or not you are already a student member of IASNR, we want to hear from you - what do you want from IASNR as a student, what is already working, and how can we improve?

Please, take a moment - just 3 minutes or so - to complete this survey to tell us what IASNR can do for you as a student - we truly value your feedback and appreciate your time.

Don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or just to connect.

Regards,

Anne Junod Brett Alan Miller
