About SAPLING
-------------
SAPLING aims to promote and develop research in the Programming Languages field within the Sydney area, including nearby regional centres such as Canberra, Newcastle and Wollongong.
Important Dates:
----------------
- Abstract submission deadline: October 13, 2014
- Travel funding application deadline: October 13, 2014
- Notification: October 20, 2014
- Meeting: November 24, 2014
SAPLING Meetings
----------------
SAPLING meetings allow programming language academics, researchers, industry practitioners and students to present and discuss their research and experiences in an informal setting.
Previous meetings were held at University of New South Wales (2006, 2010), Macquarie University (2007, 2013), Australian National University (2007, 2012), University of Sydney (2009) and University of Technology, Sydney (2011).
The 2014 SAPLING meeting will be held at Oracle Labs, Australia who are located in Brisbane. Yes, we know Brisbane is not really in the “Sydney area” but we are aiming to broaden the scope of the meeting within our general goals of encouraging interaction between programming language people. Thanks to Oracle Labs, particularly Cristina Cifuentes, for hosting this meeting, in particular for providing some travel funding (see below).
SAPLING talks are generally of 20 minutes duration with substantial periods of time available for discussion. Talks can present completed work, outline work in progress, demonstrate a system, or provide a short tutorial on a topic of general interest.
Submissions for talks should be in the form of an abstract no longer than one A4 page in plain text, PostScript or PDF format. The abstract should be emailed to Tony Sloane (Anthony.Sloane AT
mq.edu.au) by close of business on October 13, 2014.
As far as possible, selection of presenters is non-competitive, with all interested qualified speakers given an opportunity to talk, within the time constraints of a one day meeting. Preference will be given to topics of general interest.
No proceedings will be published but the talk abstracts and links to related material will be published on the SAPLING website. There is no registration fee to attend this meeting.
Travel Funding
———————
A limited amount of travel support will be available for students from outside Queensland, thanks to financial support from Oracle Labs, Australia. Students requesting travel support must submit a brief justification to Tony Sloane (Anthony.Sloane AT
mq.edu.au) by close of business on October 13, 2014.
Travel support will only be available for students from Australia and New Zealand, and will not exceed the cheapest airfare from their nearest major airport to Brisbane. Funds for this are limited, and we will give priority to students likely to benefit most from attending the meeting, i.e. students whose research is most aligned with the topic.
Local Arrangements
------------------
Oracle Labs, Australia will provide morning/afternoon teas during the day and drinks & nibbles after the sessions. Attendees are responsible for their own lunch.
See the meeting website
