privacy.donottrackheader.enabled

Hi Mike,

is there any chance to set "privacy.donottrackheader.enabled" via preferences in GPO?

I saw the other options in tracking in GPO template but those will not change the "privacy.donottrackheader.enabled" setting and I cant find a way to do it.

Hello Sascha,

Actually the DNT request that you want to send to websites is completely useless, or worse!

When you enable it, you send to the website a "please, do not track me!" request, but the website can :
- ignore it
- still track you
- or it can even specifically more track you than if you hadn't sent the DNT request in the first place!

Apple has completely removed it from Safari in 2019

If you still want it anyway, you can set this pref using the autoconfig.js method

Hi Marius,

yes i know that it just might be respected by web sites but this setting was recommended after a browser investigation.
I will ignore it so long 😊 Thanks for the recommended autoconfig.js in case we have to set it anyway.

DNT has been largely superceded by GPC
https://globalprivacycontrol.org/
which has legal force in several juristictions, including the EU and California.

This can be set from the GUI with
Prefences/Privacy and Security/Website Privacy Preferences
"Tell websites not to sell or share my data"
or by setting
privacy.globalprivacycontrol.functionality.enabled
and
services.sync.prefs.sync.privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled
both to " true" in about:config

Sorry, I don't know how to set it from GPO.

FYI, "privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled" is already available via the Preferences policy.

If you feel strongly about privacy.donottrackheader.enabled, feel free to open a bug:

and I'll get it prioritized.

Tried with “privacy.globalprivacycontrol.enabled” set to true but got no green light on the test website (esr 115.12.0)

 

Did you tried it?

Yes, and that is true by default on Firefox now (it might not have been in the 115 ESR)
