Regarding Firefox ESR 115 generation for Win7-8.1.

I have just encountered multiple mixed problems with the new 115.17.0 update.
115.16.0 installed -> updated ok (at least 2 distinct instances)
115.16.1 portable (1) -> update failed
115.16.1 portable (2) -> updated ok
115.8.0 installed -> update failed.
115.14.0 portable -> updated ok (same as (2) above, just a separate copy on another computer, with different usage schedule))
115.15.0 portable -> update failed (same as (1) above, just a separate copy on another computer, with different usage schedule)

The installed variant requires manual administrator intervention.
The portable variant I really don't know how to update without data loss.

It starts with "downloading update, 0 from 7.8MB", after 2-5 seconds it switches to something like 60MB and then says update failed, download and install manually.
Various instances listed above on different computers, residing on different networks.

So far, the only consistent behaviour I found was:
- multiple copies of a certain Firefox ESR Portable with it's profile - fail to update
- multiple copies of another (different) Firefox ESR Portable with it's profile - updates successfully.
Since both instances were in use for a long time now, and incrementally updated along without problems, some up to 115.16.1

One 115.8.0 installed instance has a very basic profile, without extensions, it still failed.

I am lost at this time as to how to resolve this.

I'm going to focus on this one:

115.8.0 installed -> update failed.

because it's easy for me to try.

It's not failing for me, though.

What is the exact error you are seeing?

Mine updated to 115.12.0 first and then to 128

It says in this order:
Checking for new version
Downloading ... (shows a small total size)
Downloading ... (shows a large size cca 60M, for a short time, <0.5s)
Update failed followed by a link "download the latest version"

All these in the Help -> About window.

------------------
Separately, I get a popup notification on the right:
Update available
Firefox couldn't update automatically. Download the new version --- you won't lose saved information or customizations.

All these on a Win7.

For me it is easier to focus on the portable instances, because I can easily make a copy before attempting changes.

If you go into about:config, you can find the preference

app.update.log

and set it to true and the browser console will have a lot of info about the update process that could help us track this down.

I have the same problem here when trying to update Firefox 115.16.1 to 115.17.0 on a Windows 7 system.

Firefox tries to download the correct update file, but gets a file of a different size from the download server and
therefore cancels the download. See log file in the attachment.

We think we've resolved these update issues.

Could you try again?
