Intent to prototype: Replacing <input type=color> picker with in-browser popup

As of 2025-12-21 I intend to replace the current platform-specific color picker with a common cross-platform HTML-based picker.

For now this doesn't support datalist yet (bug 2007533), please feel free to report any other missing features or regressions including accessibility.

Specification: https://html.spec.whatwg.org/#color-state-(type=color) (although it allows any kind of implementation detail for pickers, we are doing this mostly for new alpha/colorspace attributes, which are not implemented yet as of now)

Platform coverage: Desktop only (Linux/macOS/Windows)

Preference: dom.forms.html_color_picker.enabled

DevTools bug: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2000644 (this technically does not affect DevTools, except we are now sharing the common picker implementation with DevTools.)

Other browsers:

• Blink: uses similar in-browser picker
• WebKit: uses macOS picker
