I'm not a fan of Adobe Reader.  It's a bit of a pig, it runs crap in the background, it's been buggy over the last year, but I've been using it as the default because it handles everything people expect in PDFs - read, print, fill out.  I've never had it fail at these tasks (when it isn't crashing due to some bug).  Do people feel that the PDF viewer in Firefox is now mature enough to replace it?

My answer is a resounding YES (because I knew the team has made a lot of incredible process lately), but I reached out to them to get specifics:

"Yes, our PDF viewer can now render and print most PDFs exactly like Adobe Reader. Over the last few years, we have also added support for various editing features: form filling, adding text, drawing, adding images, highlighting. We are currently working on a signature feature which will allow you to add signatures to PDFs and save them for later use."

Though noting I have had a print issue with (confidential client) PDF generated from Google Docs that consistently locks up the (Epson Workforce 8690) when printed from FF135. I've not had a chance to selectively edit the document to either (a) work out what trips it nor (b) get it to a state that it could be submitted with a bug report. The same PDF downloaded and printed from Okular works fine.

For viewing/marking up etc. the FF PDF viewer is great.

just my 2 cents:

we have a PDF viewer issue with Firefox on Windows Terminal Server behind a proxy:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1935076

since months no progress and it just works with any other PDF viewer..

Thanks, I'll mention this.

Do you have WASM disabled?

That doesn't sound like the same bug then.

Have you opened a bug for your specific issue?

i forwarded all mail communication I had with Calixte about this topic directly to you.

Maybe you can shed some light on it and speed it up.

Thank you,

Hi Mike,
That's fantastic news.  I will switch to FF on my personal machine for a few weeks to test and then roll it out

Thanks!

For "enterprise" use, there is an annoying bug with printing PDFs with thermal printers: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1836028
