History - Early MLPerf meeting picture!

Hey Folks,

A long time ago at an early meeting, we took a group picture to celebrate.

Oddly enough, we lost the original picture. I don't recall who's camera was used (and I think we did use a camera and not a phone).

However, the picture was embedded in a slide that Peter Mattson used for Hot Chips.

Well, I was able to get the color back into the photo, blow it up on my monitor and screen grab it. The aspect ratio might be a little off, but it's quite nice.

I think the original is somewhere in the MLperf google drive (the archived old version). The meeting was on Intel’s campus, if that helps narrow down the date.

Was that the first official meeting, on 13 September 2018?

 

MLPerf got unveiled to the general public in early May 2018:

 

(Hmm, why haven't we got a 5 year celebration yet?)

 

I believe there also was a pre-announcement meeting in April 2018, and rumours started to spread quickly...

Timeline: First meeting was just ~6-7 orgs. Second meeting was Stanford Faculty Club in May 2018 as Paulius noted. That was my first meeting as well. I think the second one was at Google, then maybe Intel?

I think this was the first public event:

So we could do a 5-year party, just not worry about the exact year
