CIT is a Nationally recognized program that teaches law enforcement safe and effective approaches to handling crisis incidents involving a mentally ill individual. 

The intensive 2-day training will provide behavioral health professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively when a consumer has involvement with the criminal justice system. The training will be conducted under the instructional supervision of local CIT-trained police officers, county prosecutors, jail administrators and personnel, and probation/parole officers. The training will offer practical information for behavioral health professionals about the complex criminal justice system. At the conclusion of the 2-day training, the participants will be able to interact effectively with various criminal justice professionals while advocating for consumers.

Training Topics will Include

  1. Law enforcement logistics
  1. Limitations of an officer's authority
  1. Jail issues
  1. Legal issues
  1. Understanding probation and parole
  1. Law-enforcement ride-along


The CIT Companion Course for Mental Health Professionals is a FREE training, made possible by funds from the Tri-County Mental Health Levy, with support from NAMI Ohio and the Ohio Criminal Justice Coordinating Center of Excellence. 

NOTE: Fourteen (14) hours of Continuing Education credit for counselors, social workers, and marriage & family therapists is pending approval by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist Board.
