NEW PATH ANNOUNCES CLOSING OF PIQUA FOOD PANTRY
LAST DAY OF OPERATION WILL BE THURSDAY, OCTOBER 16
TIPP CITY – On Wednesday, October 1st, New Path, Inc. was informed by their partner, Council on Rural Service, Inc. that New Path would have to vacate their food pantry located at 1876 Commerce Drive. The last day of operation for the Piqua Food Pantry will be Thursday, October 16th.
“Council on Rural Services, Inc., is the organization that provides Head Start services throughout Western Ohio, including Miami County. Council on Rural Services believes that it is in their best interest to sever this relationship and not allow New Path’s services to operate out of their facility,” said William Lutz, Executive Director of New Path.
“This will have a tremendous negative impact on the Piqua community,” continued Lutz. “Through the end of September our food pantry had over 5,700 visits. In September alone, over 700 of our friends and neighbors were served by our Piqua facility. These folks will now have to turn elsewhere for food. For a community that has a poverty rate of over 15%, including a youth poverty rate of 17%, this is terribly sad news.”
“We will continue to look for a home in Piqua,” added Lutz. “We believe we are providing a critical service to the community and we wish we had more time to transition to a new location.”
