Good afternoon.

Immediately on the heels of the PUCO approving a $168 million distribution rate increase in Nov. 2025 (Case No. 24-1009-EL-AIR), AES Ohio filed the first multi-year rate case under Ohio House Bill 15. Now, on top of several increases over the years, AES wants residential consumers to pay $143 million more in delivery charges over three years (2027 to 2029).

If you’re thinking “enough is enough,” tell the PUCO! The PUCO Commissioners will decide whether AES Ohio’s latest proposed increase is approved.

OCC intervened in the case to represent the interests of AES Ohio’s residential consumers. But, you can also speak out to make your voice heard and OCC’s voice even stronger.

Your input matters!

In the previous rate case, OCC was able to reduce the increase by $70 million and ensure that it is used for needed upgrades to the distribution system. OCC also secured several benefits for residential consumers:

  • Kept AES Ohio’s fixed customer charge at $9.75 instead of the  $22 per month that AES requested;
  • Increased the amount shareholders put towards AES Ohio’s bill payment assistance to $1 million;
  • Eliminated reconnection fees for all residential consumers; and
  • Ensured electric vehicle charging costs won’t be paid for by all consumers.

OCC’s advocacy was strengthened by the 200 public comments filed at the PUCO and everyone who came to the public hearings to voice their concerns, as well a local governments who filed Resolutions opposing the increase.

How to make your voice heard:

Speak in person at a local public hearing:  Hearing dates pending and will be posted on at www.occ.ohio.gov when announced.

NOTE: OCC will request that the PUCO hold a virtual public hearing. But if you are interested in speaking at a virtual public hearing, it is encouraged that you also submit a request for a virtual public hearing at https://bit.ly/Public-Comment-25-0958  or by phone at 1-800-686-PUCO (7826).

Work schedules, disabilities, health issues, childcare, eldercare, and transportation barriers should not prevent Ohioans from being heard. Consumers deserve accessibility to participate in decisions that affect their electric bills.

Send a Letter—Reference AES Ohio and PUCO Case No. 25-0958-EL-AIR and mail to:

More information about the case can be found at www.occ.ohio.gov/factsheet/aes-ohio-rate-increase-25-0958-el-air. A poster is attached.

Thank you for making your voice heard and for helping spread the word for others to do the same.

Continued thanks for all you do!
