Hello Everyone,

I had a couple of doubts regarding the data collection by M-Lab.

1. Are M-Lab speed test (https://speed.measurementlab.net/#/) and the Internet Speed Test from Google in collaboration with M-Lab same?

2. Are data for NDT, Neubot DASH, traceroute, etc. collected from the same speed test?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chandan

Hey Chandan,

Great questions, thanks for reaching out.

1. Both speed.measurementlab.net and Google's Internet Speed Test integrate NDT. speed.measurementlab.net is a reference implementation of our open-source javascript client that third-party clients, such as Google's IST, base their integrations off of.

2. NDT, Neubot, DASH and traceroute all run on M-Lab's platform i.e they are all hosted as services on the servers we run. NDT, Neubot, DASH are not the same test and are run individually. Traceroute however is what we call a side-car service and runs every time aTCP connection is made on the M-Lab platform

Hope this helps! Let me know what else I or others can answer.

Hello Lai,

Thank you so much for your reply. It helps in my understanding of the tests.

One more question, how do clients run Neubot DASH? Do they need to download the client code from GitHub and run it for the data to be collected by M-Lab?

Best,
Chandan
